Wanted: A Whirlwind Romance...or at least a great first date.

I had my date with the RM this weekend and it had all the makings of being a perfect date

He picked me up in a red mustang, by far the coolest thing I've ever been in

I met his family and we, fortunately, really hit it off {hint for guy readers, never take a first date to meet your entire family}

We went on an outdoor water adventure ordered straight from Hitch.

I even experience a Pride and Prejudice BBC Darcy coming out of the water moment {quite nice, I must say}

But still no spark.

Dates like these remind me of my favorite quote from Madame Bovary.

Love, she thought, must come suddenly, with great outbursts and lightning’s- a hurricane of the skies, which falls upon life, revolutionizes it, roots up the will like a leaf and sweeps the whole heart into the abyss."

Yes, this is an idealistic portrait of love, but I am a romantic and this is what I want. I need to feel like that when I fall for HIM. I realize that is a lot of pressure for only a first date, but I don't think it's asking to much to require giddiness, butterflies, fireworks...something.

We were able to get caught up which was nice, but the conversation was concentrated on him: His life experiences, His mission, His family, Him Him HIM.

Yes, I am being dramatic, but here is an example of my frustration:

I thought that because I had a horrid first week of school the guy who has known me for three years would inquire about it. Did he? Nope, not one word.

I find that strange. In fact I’m pretty certain he didn't even ask how any part of my life was. It was the RM show with brief commercials sponsored by The Blue Stocking.

Is it too much to ask for a guy to be concerned about you?

Now it’s time for me to be less dramatic. He’s still a great guy, just not my guy.

Overall it was a good date disguised as a fantastic date.

He just got off his mission, you have to give him a break. When missionaries get home, they don't know anything EXCEPT the mission...so many of them frequently talk about their mission and themselves. They need to get comfortable with the real world again so I would try again AFTER the adjustment period.

Awww. Definitely give it some time. He was probably nervous, the guy has had ZERO chances of even small talk with a girl he's interested in let alone a date in 2 YEARS! I think your reader Cato gave great advice in the post where you said the RM asked you out. He's freshly home so anything he says you can't really hold against him... even if it smacks of self-centeredness (yeah - I don't think that's a word. Sorry.)
