The Dilettante
THE DILETTANTE is a woman of whimsy seeking an intriguing man to admire her from afar. Once such a man is found, The Dilettante must overcome a crippling lack of commitment if she is ever to be prevailed upon to be married.
The Dilettante's Story:
The Dilettante has only truly been in love but once. At seventeen, fancying herself toughened by the matrimonial chaos surrounding her, she fell into the company of The Dashing Ruffian and soon found the walls protecting her heart torn down. While in the case of many an Austen hero, this would soon be cause for betrothal, but in the case of The Dilettante, it ended in heartbreak.
For many years afterward, The Dilettante looked upon such affairs with a bitter soul, confident in the belief that happiness with another was impossible, and those who claimed otherwise were merely too blissfully stupid to see the truth. In truth, her complaints were unbearable, and the Lord saw fit to humble her through her mission. She returned a carefully hopeful woman.
While she has joined the hunt for a suitor, she often finds herself holding back. She remains avidly interested in the subject of love, and found that once she abandoned her pessimistic world views, she was quite sought after for her advice on the matter. This expertise has yet to be applied in her own life. In fact, there are many in her social circle who accuse her of destroying her chances for happiness before they fully bloom. She has set out to prove them wrong.
